LG Display unveiled a variety of next-generation automotive displays at CES 2023 under the theme of ‘Advanced Mobility Lifestyle,’ to enable visitors to enjoy a visual and auditory experience of the future.
The first experience zone, called ‘See’ presents a concept car which transforms from the currently commercialized self-driving car to a futuristic one that is ‘completely driven by the car itself’. This zone also showcased the transformation of display technology resulting from the advancement of future automotive technology.
If you look inside the concept car, the first thing that stands out is an ultra-large dashboard which consists of the 12.3-inch Hole in Display Cluster and the 34-inch P-OLED display in one large cover glass. This cutting-edge product offers the advantages of OLED such as perfect black, vivid color expression and design flexibility seamlessly matching the interior of the vehicle.
On top of that, what also matters in a large-sized display for vehicles is power consumption. As LG Display’s P-OLED display is more energy-efficient and lightweight than conventional LCDs, it is widely recognized as the proper automotive display for the new era of electric mobility.
On the center of the cockpit is a Center Fascia with a 12.8-inch P-OLED control pad. Due to its flexibility to bend or change shape, P-OLED can be used to create a unique design, particularly on various curved surfaces of the vehicle. This technology enables the curves of the Center Fascia while creating a seamless interior with a thin bezel.
Unlike traditional HUDs, which are widely used in car windows, the 12-inch HUD LTPS LCD in the cockpit windows delivers ultra-high brightness of up to 5,000 nits, delivering clear driving information to the driver on the go. A combination of three 12-inch LCD displays with ultra-high brightness will offer a complete panoramic view that provides driving information.
LG Display also introduced ATO (Advanced Thin OLED) products. Using the same Tandem OLED technology as P-OLED, ATO products replace P-OLED’s polyimide materials with glass substrates to be more cost-effective but to offer the same performance including perfect black and superb picture quality.
In addition, LG Display also introduced 12.3-inch glasses-free 3D technology that delivers classical aesthetic of the analog dashboard and dynamic contents. The 27-inch LTPS LCD product can be used as a central information display (CID) and co-driver display (CDD). In particular, it applied Switchable Privacy Mode (SPM), a viewing angle control technology that does not distract the driver from the contents of the CDD area while driving.
Let’s find out LG Display’s ‘Thin Actuator Sound Solution’, a CES® 2023 Innovation Award-winning in-car sound system, at the Hear Zone.
