SEOUL, Korea (October 15, 2024) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that its high-end 14-inch laptop panels have been certified for reducing carbon emissions and validated for containing bio-based materials.
The company confirmed that the panels have become the first displays to receive Product Carbon Reduction (PCR) certification from TUV Rheinland, a leading global independent testing, inspection and certification body.
This recognition underscores LG Display’s active participation in global carbon reduction efforts and its proactive response to growing demand for eco-friendly products.
The company has reduced carbon emissions generated through its 14-inch laptop panels’ production, use, and disposal by around 8%. It achieved this by introducing a number of new technologies, including expanding the use of environmentally friendly components, increasing circuit integration through micro- processing to raise energy efficiency, and developing low-power algorithms.
Moreover, LG Display obtained Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) from global safety science organization UL Solutions for the panels’ bio-based content. ECV is granted to products whose environmental claims have been verified, such as those related to recyclable parts or hazardous substances.
The company was recognized for enhancing the eco-friendliness of its 14-inch laptop panels by using discarded sugarcane by-products to incorporate more biodegradable biomass plastic parts.
Since 2021, LG Display has developed eco-friendly products using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, which comprehensively evaluates all environmental impacts in the product life cycle. This has enabled the company to reduce its use of materials and parts, lower greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption during manufacturing, develop products that use less power, and decrease waste at the disposal stage.
“We will continue to lead the high-end IT panel market by providing differentiated value to customers who want products that offer both outstanding performance, such as high resolution and a high refresh rate, as well as eco-friendly factors,” said Jeong-ki Park, Senior Vice President and Head of Medium Display Development Group at LG Display.
