At CES 2024, LG Display unveiled cutting-edge displays under the theme ‘A Better Future.’ The North Hall showcased a diverse range of large-size OLED technologies that surpass conventional picture quality and performance and enhance consumer lifestyle, including TVs, gaming monitors, and Transparent OLEDs. Here, visitors were able to experience LG Display’s leading OLED technology from a wide array of OLED solutions.
OLED TV: META Technology 2.0 opening a new era
At the main booth in the North Hall, LG Display unveiled the groundbreaking ‘META Technology 2.0,’ a significant advancement over last year’s ‘META Technology 1.0’. META Technology 2.0 achieves a ground-breaking 42% improvement in peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits compared to conventional OLEDs, making it the brightest large-sized OLED panel in existence.
Utilizing the ‘Micro Lens Array Plus (MLA+)’, a pattern of optimized micrometer-scale lenses that maximize light emission, the upgraded brightness enhancing algorithm ‘META Multi Booster’, and the full-range brightness detail enhancing algorithm ‘Detail Enhancer,’ META Technology 2.0 boasts peak brightness of 3,000 nits and color brightness of 1,500 nits, ensuring vivid images and natural color similar to what the human eye perceives in real life.
Visitors experiencing OLED TVs equipped with META Technology 2.0 were surprised by the exceptional image quality and immersive experience. One visitor stated, “People have varying opinions on OLED, but upon seeing META Technology 2.0, it’s very clear that OLED is definitely the way to go in a number of aspects, including brightness and the ability to track motion perfectly.”
Gaming OLED: Various sizes and form factors for a top-tier gaming experience
Also, LG Display showcased gaming monitors that elevate the quality of the gaming experience with high resolution, powerful performance, and various sizes. The lineup includes the 27-inch QHD gaming OLED with an ultra-high refresh rate of 480Hz, the 45-inch Bendable gaming OLED with variable screen curvature for optimized gaming across different genres, and a newly introduced 34- and 39-inch ultrawide gaming OLEDs to the 21:9 aspect ratio lineup.
In addition, the 31.5-inch OLED garnered a lot of attention as a do-it-all display with a clear UHD (3840×2160) resolution perfect for office work and content consumption, while also offering the Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology to support high-performance gaming at 480Hz. One media member was impressed with the 27-inch 480Hz QHD gaming OLED, stating that “as a gamer myself, seeing this technology makes me want to play gamers even more.”
Transparent OLED: Expanding the possibilities for the future
Furthermore, LG Display showcased the expanded size options and enhanced functionality of its Transparent OLED, the only one being mass-produced globally. With the addition of 30- and 77-inch models to the existing 55-inch model, the Transparent OLED lineup now offers a variety of size options and improvement in terms of brightness (45%) and luminance (600 nits) to unlock new consumer experiences.
Particularly, the endless possibilities of Transparent OLED in daily life received a great response from visitors. With 45% transparency, it seamlessly integrates with surrounding interiors while displaying clear information or content. In retail stores, it can serve as promotional signage, in homes or offices as a screen, and in mobility as a window display. Witnessing the diverse applications of Transparent OLED, numerous visitors positively evaluated the seamless connection of space, information, and content.
A visitor from France quoted that he would “like to see Transparent OLED inside luxurious Champs-Élysées stores” and also added that he sees other use cases “in subway stations to provide information or at a concert to enhance the overall experience of the show.”
