LG Display has hosted its first “2025 AX Hackathon,” an in-house AI idea competition designed to strengthen all employees’ AI utilization capabilities and accelerate the adoption of an AX (AI Transformation)-driven organizational culture. As a newly introduced initiative, the program aims to empower employees to enhance productivity and contribute to business performance through practical applications of AI.
A Practical Program Open to All — Even Non-Developers

The AX Hackathon is a hands-on program in which participants complete the entire development cycle of an AI solution—from idea proposal to pilot development and final demonstration. A key feature of the program is its accessibility: any employee with a value-creating idea can participate, even without prior development experience. Non-developer participants were paired with developers, lowering barriers to entry and further promoting a company-wide AX culture.
From Ideas to Pilot Solutions in Six Weeks

Despite being the first event of its kind, the 2025 AX Hackathon drew significant engagement, with 83 teams and 143 employees applying. Fifteen finalist teams advanced to a six-week pilot development phase, during which they built AI solutions targeting real on-the-job challenges such as productivity improvement, accuracy enhancement in process operations, and design optimization.
Participants received technical mentoring from internal experts to boost both the feasibility and completeness of their solutions. At the final demonstration, teams were evaluated primarily on practical effectiveness and expected business impact.
Top Prize: AI-Based Construction Optimization
Expected to Reduce Annual Costs by KRW 4.1 Billion

The top honor was awarded to a solution titled “AI-based Construction Optimization System,” recognized for its strong alignment with the hackathon’s theme of maximizing productivity and operational efficiency. By automating tasks previously performed manually, the solution is expected to reduce task time by 96% and generate an estimated annual cost savings of approximately KRW 4.1 billion.
Expanding AX Capabilities Across the Organization
Starting this year, LG Display plans to make the AX Hackathon a regular initiative to further expand AX culture throughout the organization. Outstanding ideas from the program will be supported through patent filings and real-world implementation to scale AX outcomes across the company.
LG Display has steadily built a strong AI foundation through initiatives such as the “AX Certification Program,” the in-house AI assistant Hi-D, and LG AI Research’s generative AI technology, Chat EXAONE. Moving forward, the company will continue nurturing AI experts, accelerating AX adoption, enhancing business competitiveness, and delivering differentiated customer value.
