Taking Steps for the Planet:
LG Display’s Commitment to Carbon Neutrality

On April 22, in celebration of Earth Day, communities around the world came together through various campaigns and activities to address climate change and protect the environment. From grassroots environmental campaigns in the United States to sustainability-focused festivals and workshops in Germany and Japan, global efforts highlighted the importance of safeguarding our planet’s future.

At a time when collective action for the environment is more crucial than ever, LG Display is also stepping up its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality. Let’s take a closer look at the company’s key sustainable management initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.

LG Display Achieves Industry’s First Certification from TÜV Rheinland for Product Carbon Footprint Methodology

LG Display recently became the display panel industry’s first company to receive certification from TÜV Rheinland, a leading global independent testing, inspection and certification body for its Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculation method.

This certification is awarded to companies that have established systems capable of quantitatively calculating greenhouse gas emissions across their entire product life cycle in accordance with international standards. LG Display earned high marks by rigorously reflecting international standards in its data collection and validation methods, and by developing an in-house evaluation methodology optimized for displays.

Establishing a Product Carbon Footprint Evaluation System Based on International Standards (ISO 14067)

To proactively respond to the growing demand for low-carbon products and meet certification requirements from global customers, LG Display has established a Product Carbon Footprint Evaluation System in accordance with ISO 14067 international standards.
This system meets all mandatory criteria, including data collection, calculation, and impact assessment methods, while further advancing the methodology to suit the unique characteristics of display products.
Additionally, LG Display has developed its own IT system that automatically calculates carbon footprint figures by integrating product development data. This enables the company to manage carbon emissions transparently and systematically.

Recognized for Excellence in Carbon Management:
9 Years of CDP “Carbon Management Sector Honors Club” Selection

Further underscoring its leadership in sustainability, LG Display was named to the “Carbon Management Sector Honors” in the IT category for the ninth consecutive year in the 2024 CDP Climate Change Response Evaluation.
CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) is one of the world’s most authoritative environmental disclosure organizations, evaluating climate change and water management efforts of major listed companies since 2000.
CDP scores are regarded as some of the most trusted sustainability indicators globally, alongside evaluations by ISS(Institutional Shareholder Services), the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), and EcoVadis.

LG Display’s strong performance reflects its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, as declared in 2023. The company has developed a clear roadmap to reduce direct and indirect emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by 53% by 2030 and by 67% by 2040, compared to 2018 levels, demonstrating leadership in carbon management.

Strengthening Sustainable Management to Achieve “Carbon Neutrality by 2050”

Following its carbon neutrality roadmap, LG Display reduced greenhouse gas emissions across its global sites by 43% compared to 2018 levels as of last year. Furthermore, it sourced 39% of its total electricity consumption from renewable energy.
These achievements reflect its ongoing efforts to minimize both Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) emissions associated with display production.

The company is also expanding the use of renewable energy, introducing advanced emissions reduction technologies, and optimizing equipment operations through DX(Digital Transformation)-based smart control systems.

LG Display is collaborating with relevant organizations to develop low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) gases and accelerate the transition to renewable energy. As part of its ongoing commitment to carbon neutrality, the company is intensifying its efforts through various initiatives aimed at achieving a sustainable future. We remain dedicated to turning this goal into reality with a strong focus on sustainable business practices. We invite you to follow our journey as we continue to drive positive change for a better tomorrow.
