[SID 2025] Highlights from LG Display’s Showcase of
Future-Shaping Technologies

SID Display Week 2025, the world’s largest display exhibition and symposium concluded successfully in San Jose, California. Under the theme “Shaping the Future,” LG Display participated in this year’s event with three dedicated zones – Unrivaled OLED, Driving the Future, and Sustainable Innovation – each highlighting cutting-edge innovations that are paving the way for the future of display technology.

Notably at SID 2025, LG Display’s groundbreaking research on its fourth-generation OLED panel was selected as ‘A Distinguished Paper of the Year’. In addition, LG Display picked up a trio of People’s Choice Awards for its trendsetting, futuristic display technology innovations, namely 83-inch fourth-generation OLED, and 57-inch Pillar-to-Pillar display. Let’s take a look at the highlights from LG Display’s booth that captivated the audience with its vision for tomorrow.

4th-generation OLED Selected as a ‘Distinguished Paper’
LG Display’s Research Earns Global Recognition

LG Display’s 4th-Generation OLED Panel Research Selected
as Distinguished Paper at SID Display Week 2025

At SID 2025, LG Display presented 16 academic papers on next-generation display technologies. Among them, the study on its fourth-generation OLED was honored with a Distinguished Paper of The Year for its significant advancement in brightness, color reproduction, and energy efficiency.

This fourth-generation OLED adopts LG Display’s proprietary Primary RGB Tandem technology, enabling true independent emission from red, green, and blue subpixels – a major technological challenge. As a result, it achieves an industry-leading maximum brightness of 4,000 nits and color brightness of 2,100 nits, delivering exceptional performance even in AI-optimized TVs. Additionally, the panel boosts energy efficiency by approximately 20% (based on a 65-inch model), making it a more sustainable solution for next-generation TVs.

LG Display also unveiled a range of other research achievements, including a 480Hz gaming OLED incorporating its proprietary Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology, which allows users to prioritize either refresh rate or resolution depending on content.

Voted ‘Best of SID’ by Visitors
4th-generation OLED and 57” Pillar-to-Pillar

At SID, visitors vote each year during the exhibition period to select outstanding products, with winners receiving the ‘People’s Choice Awards’. This year, LG Display’s booth captured visitors’ attention with the 83-inch fourth-generation OLED featuring the proprietary Primary RGB Tandem technology and the 57-inch Pillar-to-Pillar (P2P), the world’s largest single-panel automotive display.

The 83-inch fourth-generation OLED, honored with the ‘Best OLED Technology award’, is the industry’s first-ever OLED display technology to achieve a maximum brightness as high as 4,000 nits (1 nit is the brightness produced by a candle) and nearly perfect color reproduction. It also features ultra-low reflection technology that improves reflectance, enabling perfect blacks in any environment, from dark rooms to bright spaces.

The 57-inch Pillar-to-Pillar display, recipient of the ‘Best Automotive Display award’, refers to a large screen that spans across the entire space between the left and right A-pillars of a vehicle. It provides drivers with clear, intuitive information at a glance and integrates LG Display’s in-TOUCH technology for seamless touch performance – even on a large screen. In addition, it is designed to operate flawlessly in extreme environments ranging from minus 40 Celsius to a scorching 85 Celsius, ensuring the essential reliability and durability required for automotive displays. This durable and reliable display solution is perfectly optimized for the SDV(Software Defined Vehicle) trend, captivating exhibition visitors.

A Full Spectrum of Future-Ready Display Technologies

LG Display’s booth attracted significant attention with cutting-edge technologies designed to revolutionize the future of displays. In the first of these zones, “Unrivaled OLED”, showcased the technological evolution of large-size OLEDs along with the exceptional performance of its AI-optimized 4th-generation OLED panels. These included the 4th-gen OLED TV panel featuring LG Display’s proprietary Primary RGB Tandem structure and a 27-inch 4th-gen Gaming OLED panel. Also highlighted was the LG display’s unique DFR (Dynamic Frequency & Resolution) technology, which allows users to prioritize either refresh rate or resolution based on content, offering a highly adaptable solution for gaming monitors. Additionally, LG Display unveiled a new blue phosphorescent technology that achieves 100% luminous efficiency, enhancing energy savings and generating strong excitement among visitors.

In the second of these zones, “Driving the Future”, LG Display unveiled a range of next-generation automotive display solutions optimized for future mobility. Highlights included a stretchable display that expands freely in shape, a Pillar-to-Pillar display that spans the entire width of a vehicle’s dashboard, and a Slidable display that appears only when needed. The company also introduced an LTPS LCD panel equipped with SPM (Switchable Privacy Mode) – a proprietary technology developed by LG Display that enables selective control of viewing angles for privacy. Additionally, the booth featured a 22-inch Micro LED display, which is expected to see wider adoption in both automotive and large-format screen applications. All of these innovations reflect LG Display’s commitment to leading the SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) trend with advanced, flexible display solutions.
