LG Display’s 4th Generation Achieves Peak Brightness of 4,000 Nits for Unmatched Picture Quality!

LG Display’s 4th generation OLED: setting the standard for premium displays

The rapid advancements in AI technology are reshaping various aspects of our daily lives, making AI-driven services and products more accessible than ever. These innovations are also revolutionizing the TV industry, fundamentally transforming the way we experience television.

AI-powered TVs analyze scenes, colors, and resolutions in real time to deliver optimized picture quality tailored to the viewer’s environment and preferences. To fully leverage these advanced AI technologies, displays with exceptional brightness and energy efficiency are essential. LG Display is kicking off 2025 with its groundbreaking 4th generation OLED TV panels, setting a new standard in display technology!

Primary RGB Tandem: Evolution in Element Structure

One of the standout features of LG Display’s 4th generation OLED is its remarkable peak brightness of 4,000 nits. To put this into perspective, one nit is roughly equivalent to the brightness of a single candle. This means the display achieves a brightness comparable to that of 4,000 candles.

LG Display’s 4th generation OLED TV panel also interacts in real-time with the on-device AI built into TVs, delivering the optimal picture quality in any environment while seamlessly enhancing the performance of cutting-edge AI TVs. So, how was the impressive peak brightness of 4,000 nits in this advanced 4th generation OLED achieved?

Such exceptional brightness is made possible by LG Display’s proprietary Primary RGB Tandem structure. This innovative design stacks the red (R), green (G), and blue (B) light-emitting elements—representing the primary colors of light—independently.

Previously, a 3-stack structure was used as the light source, consisting of two layers of blue emitters with shorter energy wavelengths and a single layer containing red, green, and yellow emitters. The 4th generation OLED TV panel introduces the ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ technology, featuring a 4-stack structure. It includes two layers of blue emitters along with independent red and green emitter layers.

With the addition of an extra layer compared to the previous design, the amount of light produced has increased, resulting in a 33% improvement in peak brightness. This advancement enables even brighter and more vivid displays.

The color brightness, which enhances color expression, has also been improved, achieving 2,100 nits—a 40% increase from the previous generation’s 1,500 nits. The separation of red, green, and yellow light-emitting elements into individual layers enhances color purity and achieves 99.5% color reproduction based on the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), delivering exceptionally sharp and vibrant visuals across all types of content.

In addition to delivering brighter and more vivid visuals, the 4th generation OLED maximizes energy efficiency. By enhancing the element structure and power supply system, the panel’s temperature has been lowered, resulting in a remarkable 20% improvement in energy efficiency.

Ultra-Low Reflection Technology: Perfect Blacks and Vivid Details

Ultra-low reflection technology blocks up to 99% of light reflections

In brightly lit living rooms, displays often suffer from ambient light reflections, causing overlapping images or black tones to appear gray. To solve this customer inconvenience, LG Display has developed a special film that offsets both light reflected from the display’s surface and light absorbed and reflected inside the panel. This ultra-low reflection technology blocks up to 99% of internal and external light reflections, enabling the display to achieve perfect blacks even in bright environments with 500 lux brightness. For example, when viewing a starry night scene, the deep black sky remains vivid and sharp, unaffected by ambient light, delivering an experience akin to watching in a dark cinema.

The 4th generation OLED delivers consistent perfect blacks and vibrant picture quality, regardless of changes in ambient brightness

Unlike most displays, where color reproduction and accuracy sharply decline in brighter environments, this product maintains nearly unchanged color reproduction and 100% color accuracy even at a brightness level of 500 lux. With its ability to deliver perfect blacks and rich colors in any environment, this groundbreaking panel surpasses the limits of display technology.

A Human-Friendly Display That Considers Both User Health and the Environment

Watching TV for extended periods often leads to eye fatigue and difficulty falling asleep at night. Numerous studies have shown that this is caused by excessive blue light emitted from displays.

The 4th generation OLED does not negatively affect eye health or circadian rhythms

LCD panels emit harmful blue light levels ranging from 70% to 80%, which can cause eye strain and disrupt circadian rhythms with prolonged exposure. In contrast, the 4th generation OLED panel minimizes the impact of blue light on the human body by reducing blue light levels to just 45%, providing a much more comfortable viewing experience.

The 4th generation OLED also uses over 90% less plastic compared to LCDs and improves the recyclability of components to over 92.7% upon disposal. From development to mass production, it stands out as a sustainable, eco-friendly display, garnering significant attention for its commitment to environmental responsibility.

OLED Quality of Excellence Crafted with Proprietary Technology: Driving Customer Experience Innovation

LG Display’s 4th generation OLED sets a new benchmark in display technology with proprietary solutions such as Primary RGB Tandem and ultra anti-reflection technology. The 4th generation OLED is set to be featured in premium TVs and gaming displays to be mass-produced this year, ready to deliver an unparalleled OLED experience.

Moving forward, LG Display will continue to strengthen its leadership in display technology under its philosophy of user-centric innovation, striving to deliver even greater value to customers.
