UL Solutions’ Platinum rating and UL Mark for low blue light
The first performance verification for eye comfort involves the ‘Platinum’ rating and the ‘UL Mark for low blue light’ from UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science. While blue light emitted by displays is widely known to negatively affect eye comfort and sleep quality, LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panels were tested by UL Solutions and were shown to emit the least amount of blue light wavelengths at just 36%, the lowest level among all existing TV panels. To put this into perspective, traditional LCD TV panels of the same size emit twice as much, at around 70~80%!
As the first ever safety and certification organization in the United States, UL Solutions has conducted various tests related to display hazardousness using rigorous verification methods. This year, UL Solutions strengthened its blue light evaluation by introducing a new four-tier (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze) rating system and awarded the top Platinum rating to LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panel for the first time in the industry.
Since first obtaining the ‘Low Blue Light Display’ verified mark from UL Solutions back in 2020, LG Display’s third-generation OLED has once again secured top ratings under a more stringent evaluation process, demonstrating the technological advancements and excellence of LG Display’s latest OLED TV panels.
Eye-friendly certifications that include ‘Reflection-Free’, ‘Eyesafe®’, and ‘Circadian Friendly’
Blue light isn’t the only thing that can damage your eyes; reflection is another contributing factor to eye comfort. Reflection is the extent to which external light reflects onto a TV screen, with higher values indicating more reflections and, therefore, more eye fatigue due to external light interfering with the screen’s visibility. How do LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panels perform in this field?
Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, tested the third-generation OLED TV panel on its reflection ratio, and found the panel to achieve an industry-leading mark of less than 1%, and awarded the ‘Reflection-Free’ certification for the panel’s nearly nonexistent reflection levels.
Another factor for eye comfort comes in the form of flickering – a continuous fluctuation in the brightness of a display that can cause visual impairment. LG Display’s OLED TV panels are also known for providing users with the best flicker-free viewing experience; along with emitting the lowest blue light in the industry, LG Display’s OLED became the world’s first TV display to receive Eyesafe® certification, from global authority on safety and quality testing TÜV Rheinland and the U.S. eye safety organization Eyesafe Inc..
In addition, LG Display holds yet another unique and groundbreaking feat by becoming the world’s first display company to receive the ‘Circadian Friendly’ certification from TÜV Rheinland for its OLED TV and monitor panels. TÜV Rheinland granted LG Display’s OLED TV and monitor panels the ‘Circadian Friendly Level (CFL) 1,’ the highest rating in the entire Circadian Friendly certification, for having the lowest impact on the viewer’s biological pattern (or Circadian rhythm), which can be disrupted due to prolonged exposure to TVs or smartphones at night.
