SEOUL, Korea (Nov. 15, 2022) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that the company’s high-end IT LCD panels are certified as eco-friendly.
LG Display’s panels (up to 27 inches) for monitors, laptops, and tablets have received the Eco-Product Certification Mark from SGS, a Swiss-based global leader in inspection, verification, testing and certification.
The company’s SGS-certified IT LCD panels excelled in terms of environmental friendliness in four categories: Recycling, Hazardous Substances, Resource Efficiency and Energy Efficiency. The SGS Eco-Product Certification Mark is given to products that adhere to global environmental regulations and minimize hazardous substances all the way from production to disposal.
LG Display has increased its use of single metals including iron to boost the recycling rate of disposed panels to around 80 percent, which is one of the highest standards in the industry. In addition to complying with the EU’s ‘Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)’ standards, the company has ruled out using harmful chemicals and conflict minerals while minimizing the use of rare substances that could potentially cause pollution.
Meanwhile, LG Display has applied its ESG initiative ‘Eco Index’ since 2019 to self-evaluate and enhance its use of recycled raw materials while limiting the amount of harmful substances.
“We continue to unlock the full potential of our ESG management through the development of innovative technologies that minimize our impact on the environment throughout the entire process, from design and development to production and disposal,” said Jeom-jae Kim, Vice President of Foundation Technology Laboratory at LG Display. “We will further strengthen our leadership in the high-end LCD panel market by adding an eco-friendly factor to the list of our distinguished LCD technologies such as IPS and in-TOUCH.”
