Quality Sound and Pictures in a Display – The Largest 97-inch OLED with Film CSO Technology

The Bigger is Better  trend playing out in the global TV market shows no signs of fading away anytime soon, as more and more people experience the joys of a huge TV providing unparalleled viewing experiences from any viewing angle, many for the very first time. Since everyone can easily enjoy diverse content through a growing number of OTT platforms, the popularity of ultra-large TVs is soaring thanks to their ability to maximize the sense of immersion at home. OLED, the technology permitting the best viewing performance no matter what’s being watched, is the only solution in the market that perfectly matches this trend. Let’s explore some of the OLED displays that bring the premier home theater vibe home.

Claiming that ultra-large TVs are becoming the preferred choice of consumers around the world is no exaggeration. According to the market research firm Omdia, sales of over 70-inch TVs this year are expected to reach 14.9 million, which would represent a 17% average growth rate per year since 2020. And despite an overall weaker TV market due to recession concerns, the industry anticipates that extra-large TVs won’t be knocked off their upwards trajectory as more customers will likely turn to giant TVs to experience the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, so that they can feel like they’re watching the game inside the stadium.

But why are extra-large TVs being welcomed with open arms? The charm of giant TVs is unmatched, providing the ultimate immersion needed to take highly detailed movies, shows or video games to another level – which is just one reason why they are all the rage in 2022. In a time where consumers are more tempted by larger TVs, LG Display unveiled its 97-inch OLED TV panel, the largest among existing OLED TV displays, in January at CES 2022. It’s size – 2.14 meters tall, 1.20 meters wide, is truly a sight to behold. So unbelievable in fact, that experiencing this 97-inch OLED TV titan with its crystal-clear images for the first time is a moment movie lovers will never forget.

The 97-inch OLED’s brighter, more detailed images are complemented by some of the most natural colors ever produced. But how can one display boast such a complete performance? The answer is ‘EX Technology.’ LG Display’s latest proprietary technology is based on two key elements: ‘Deuterium,’ which controls organic light-emitting diodes with greater stability, and ‘Personalized Algorithms,’ which intelligently learn individual viewing patterns. Not only does EX Technology create more elaborate pictures, it also accentuates the OLED panel’s already impressive design with the bezels reduced by 30% from the original panel. The slimmer bezels give it an aesthetically-pleasing form which is also lighter, bringing total viewing immersion thanks to its larger-than-life screen.

The 97-inch OLED panel with EX Technology disclosed at K-Display 2022 has a secret weapon –   ‘Film CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED)’ Technology which lets the display create sound on its own. The film exciters attached to the back of the expansive OLED display vibrate the entire panel, creating a first-class sound emanates from the middle of the screen which are synchronized with visuals via a 5.1 channel surround system, which makes the viewing experience more realistic. Jaewon Hwang, an engineer from LG Display in charge of developing Film CSO Technology, explained more about this completely unique technology.
