LG Display Advisory Officer Yeo Sang-deog wins
‘David Sarnoff Industrial Achievement Prize’ at SID 2022

SEOUL, Korea (May. 4, 2022) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that Advisory Officer Yeo Sang-deog (formerly Chief Marketing Officer) has won the David Sarnoff Industrial Achievement Prize at the 2022 Society for Information Display (SID). He has contributed to the commercialization of large-sized OLEDs and high-resolution LCDs for mobile devices.

SID is the professional organization focused on the high-growth electronic display and visual information technology industries, and the prize was founded in honor of former RCA Chairman David Sarnoff, who led the development of U.S. broadcasting through the introduction of color TVs. The award is given to those who have significantly contributed to the growth of the global display industry.

Yeo has led the development of the electronic and display industry for the past 40 years and served in major positions such as Head of the LCD Development Center at LG Display, Head of the TV Business Unit, CTO of the company, and President of the OLED Business Unit.

In the early 2000s, LG Display was the first in the world to develop 42-inch, 52-inch, and 100-inch LCDs, which led to the expansion of the LCD industry as a whole. Under Yeo’s leadership, the company succeeded in developing ultra-high-resolution small and medium-sized LCDs optimized for smartphones.

What’s more, in the second half of the 2000s, he developed source technologies of large-sized OLEDs, which lead in the world’s first production of the 55-inch OLED TV by LG Display in 2013.

The awardee played a pivotal role in growing the OLED industry and leading the shift from LCD to OLED TVs.

The awards ceremony will be held at SID 2022 in San Jose, California on May 8.
