Level up: OLED’s Gaming Advantages

Hot on the heels of an event showcasing the ultimate display to bring to life Diablo II: Resurrected, we thought it would be a good idea to explain the gaming advantages of OLED displays, whether for console or high-end PC games.

You don’t just have to take our word for it either, as OLEDs received some serious gaming validation this month. LG Display’s entire OLED TV lineup from 48 to 88 inches was awarded the Qualified Superior Gaming Performance certification from Britain’s Intertek as well as the High Gaming Performance Gold certification from Germany’s TÜV Rheinland.

Of course, you can use an OLED TV as an outstanding option for general entertainment like movies – but you’ll also feel like you’re playing in a movie due to the gaming benefits of OLED. So, let’s take a look!

1. The fastest possible response

As games become more and more sophisticated and movie-like, they demand the highest level of performance from the displays they’re paired with. One of the requirements related to this refers to a screen’s response time, which is how long it takes to show a graphic card’s signal on the screen. OLED TVs are the very fastest available, with a response time of less than 0.1 milliseconds (ms)! By comparison, typical gaming monitors are measured at around 1 ms.  A shorter response time also reduces the overall input lag, so fast-paced games can be enjoyed with more clarity and accuracy.

2. A super smooth experience

Another big part of the OLED gaming experience is smoothness. The problem with many monitors is you get those frustrating interruptions when images stutter, tear, or suffer from inverse ghosting as frames linger. But OLED displays ensure games keep flowing just as their creators intended. Not only do they boast the fast response time already mentioned, but OLEDs additionally feature a wide variable refresh rate of 40 to 120 Hz. This is really important because a game’s frame rate is highly changeable, and therefore requires a screen with a wide variable refresh rate that can adjust accordingly to maintain a smooth flow

3. Pixels that play with you

A defining feature of OLED TVs is their pixels. Each tiny one controls itself, turning on and off as needed to create outstanding picture quality, accurate images, and exceptional color. 100% Live Pixel means games appear as they should. Moreover, when you have self-emissive pixels, you can achieve perfect black when required, as well as a vibrant and clear contrast between dark and bright images with no light leakage. This is particularly helpful when you consider that many games demand lighting and shadow effects. Combined with fast and smooth gameplay, this all adds up to some impressive realism and highly immersive gaming.

4. Looking after those eyes

You can imagine wanting to spend even more time gaming with all the benefits mentioned so far. Wouldn’t that cause some eyestrain after a while though? Most gamers know that feeling only too well, but OLED TVs come with the added advantage of being much more comfortable on the eyes. This is partly because they emit the lowest level of blue light in the industry, while they have also been certified as flicker free and discomfort glare free.
