LG Display Teams Up with Kakao Mobility to Enable Smart Parking Lot with its Transparent OLED Technology

SEOUL, Korea (Sep. 13, 2021) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, today announced its new partnership with Kakao Mobility, a Korean mobility platform company, to build a smart parking lot in Seoul, Korea, equipped with the company’s advanced Transparent OLED displays.

Through LG Display’s cutting-edge Transparent OLED technology, the two companies hope to create a differentiated parking service that not only provides convenience to visitors, but unique experiences that make a deep impression. Located in the busy Gangnam district of Seoul, the Trade Tower is a landmark of the city with more than 40 million people visiting it every year.

LG Display’s Transparent OLED panels are to be installed at the parking lot’s six main entrances to the Trade Tower’s shops. The panels, which are set to cover the existing glass walls, will provide striking spatial interior effects without compromising space or distracting visitors. Moreover, people using the parking lot will be able to interact with these new displays and enjoy a wide array of entertaining content. With the installment of these displays, these unique panels add a vibrant and futuristic feel to an otherwise ordinary parking garage.

LG Display has been utilizing 55-inch Transparent OLED displays for commercial purposes since 2019. The display’s self-emissive nature and no backlight allow 40 percent transparency along with a thin, lightweight and flexible design. With Transparent OLED displays already successfully installed as shop and subway train windows and across multiple signage forms, LG Display plans to expand the role of this groundbreaking panel display to important sectors such as autonomous cars, aircrafts, and even home furniture in the future.

“LG Display will continue to redefine the concept of spatial design with its industry-leading Transparent OLED by delivering key information and entertaining content to passersby with a difference,” said Cho Min-Woo, head of the Transparent OLED business at LG Display.
