LG Display’s brilliant history at Display Week

It was a particularly impressive Display Week 2021 for LG Display, as the company won three awards at this year’s all-virtual event presented by the Society for Information Display (SID), the leading exhibition of its kind.

With LG Display’s 65-inch Rollable OLED TV winning Display Week 2021’s highest honor, the Display of the Year Award, you may recall that this was not the first time that the company’s Rollable OLED technology had dazzled the event’s judges and attendees.

Here we will highlight the recent history of LG Display’s standout products over the last three years at Display Week.

Display Week 2020 – The infinite transformation of OLED

Moving on to Display Week 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that the event would have to move online. LG Display was still able to dazzle by bringing OLED to new form factors.

Display Week 2020 – A vision for the autonomous driving era

In addition, the company captured the mood arising from the looming arrival of autonomous driving by demonstrating its P-OLED technology.

Witnessing a 27-inch curved P-OLED on the windshield and a 12.3-inch dashboard, drivers could imagine new possibilities for their in-car experiences. For Display Week 2020, LG Display also applied CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED) technology to P-OLED for vehicles, thus creating an even more breathtaking experience behind the wheel through the perfect harmony of clear picture quality and three-dimensional sound coming from the display itself.

Display Week 2019 – Surpassing the limit of picture quality

Display Week 2019 saw LG Display unveil the world’s first 88-inch 8K OLED, signaling the beginning of the ultra-large and ultra-high-definition OLED era in earnest.

With the introduction of the People’s Choice Awards, the event’s attendees chose this display for the Best New Display Technology Award. It was particularly highly praised for expressing more detailed picture quality through its individual control of 33 million pixels.

Display Week 2019 – Rollable OLED marks a paradigm shift

LG Display’s 65-inch UHD Rollable OLED TV was the star of the show at Display Week 2019, drawing crowds of onlookers seeking to snap an image of this global first.

The company’s innovation was highly praised by experts and visitors alike because this flexible display showed no difference in picture quality regardless of whether it was fully unrolled or not. Representing a paradigm shift for the TV industry, it won both the Best Major Booth Award and the Best New Display Technology Award.

Display Week 2018 – A vision of sound

OLED’s endless potential was clear for all to see at Display Week 2018. LG Display won the Display Application of the Year Award for its 65-inch UHD CSO OLED display that wowed onlookers.

The company demonstrated CSO technology by laying the screen flat and showing the movement of plastic beads in line with the sound. This is because CSO allows the panel to act as a diaphragm, creating sound itself and allowing the on-screen action and audio experience to be perfectly united.

Display Week 2018 – OLED’s endless possibilities

The company also drew attention at Display Week 2018 by exhibiting the world’s first 77-inch flexible and transparent OLED display.

Looking back on these past technological innovations, it is not hard to see the pattern of progress that led to this year’s success at Display Week.
