LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technology, announced today that its 84-inch Ultra HD TV panel received the Quality & Performance Mark from Intertek, a global product testing and certification company, for superiority in viewing angle. With this world-renowned recognition, LG Display will continue its leadership in the newly-started Ultra HD TV display market.
Intertek’s tests on two latest Ultra HD TVs, an 84-inch Ultra HD TV panel based on IPS technology and an 85-inch Ultra HD TV panel based on Vertical Alignment (VA) technology, were made on color shift, view-ability and gamma distortion ratio, and their respective changes when viewing angle shifts from front to side. The three tested values are key components in gauging change in picture quality, a decisive viewing experience factor, according to different viewing angles. Results revealed that LG Display’s 84-inch Ultra HD IPS TV panel shows 65% less in color shift, 94% less in gamma distortion ratio, and 73% better view-ability when compared to the 85-inch Ultra HD VA TV panel.
The given results show that the 84-inch Ultra HD TV panel featuring IPS technology provides exceptional picture quality at every angle, while the 85-inch VA TV panel shows changes in picture quality depending on viewing angle, resulting in possible screen difference when seen front and center and sidewise. Also, average color shift in the IPS-based Ultra HD TV panel turned up at 0.017 compared to the VA-based panel’s 0.0298, higher than the minimum contrast value of 0.02 needed by the human eye to distinguish color differences.
