LG Display Introduces ULTRA HD Public Display Technology at ISE 2013

Leading the high-resolution public display trend forward with world’s first 84-inch ULTRA HD Public Display and 84-inch ULTRA HD Interactive Whiteboard

LG Display, a leading manufacturer of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display, introduces ULTRA HD public display technology at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2013, Europe’s largest professional AV and Electronics Systems trade show. On exhibit will be two world’s first products, an 84-inch ULTRA HD Public Display and 84-inch ULTRA HD Interactive Whiteboard, highlighting the company’s leadership in high resolution products for the public display market.

“LG Display has always been at the forefront of innovation with groundbreaking technologies like IPS and WRGB OLED, and we are now proud to bring our next innovation to the public display industry with ULTRA HD technology, opening a new era for high-definition public displays,” said Mr. Joon Jun, Vice President and Head of LG Display’s Public Display Division. “Recognizing the public display sector’s tremendous potential, we will remain aggressive in delivering new cutting-edge technologies that set the standard for the field.”

84-inch ULTRA HD Public Display

During ISE 2013, LG Display will exhibit the world’s first 84-inch ULTRA HD Public Display, providing a perfect solution for department stores, airport information screens, and outdoor advertisements. At 3840×2160, ULTRA HD utilizes an incredible 8 million pixels or four times the resolution of existing FULL HD. The IPS technology and 500 nit high-brightness ensure wide viewing clarity and life-like images even from far distances while Local Dimming technology reduces power consumption 20% by turning off the darker parts of a panel’s backlights.

84-inch ULTRA HD Interactive Whiteboard

LG Display’s 84-inch ULTRA HD Interactive Whiteboard also makes its European debut at ISE 2013. The display features a maximum brightness of 350 nit, 3.5 times brighter than existing projector-type interactive whiteboards; and ULTRA HD resolution of 3840 x 2160, 10 times the image quality of current XGA projectors.

At 1.9m by 1.1m, the ULTRA HD Interactive Whiteboard measuring as the largest LCD product of its kind is ideal for school as well as business use. For the classroom, the 84-inch ULTRA HD Interactive Whiteboard is similar in size to conventional school whiteboards allowing for easy installation. It can also be equipped with LG Display’s industry-acclaimed Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D technology featuring wide viewing angles and inexpensive glasses for a truly smart learning option. For businesses, Interactive Whiteboard, with its crystal clear resolution and smart features, will speed up digitization in offices looking for a definitive video conferencing solution to replace time and cost consuming business trips.

55-inch Slim and Narrow E-LED Public Display

In addition, LG Display will also showcase its 55-inch Edge-LED (E-LED) public display for the first time in Europe, highlighting slim and narrow design innovation in public display.

With 9.9mm of even bezel, the new 55-inch size offers the same seamless, life-like images as the previously unveiled 42- and 47-inch models. Embedding LED backlight and Local Dimming technology to reduce power consumption, the display can play video advertisements for approximately 50,000 hours.

Key Advancements in Public Display

LG Display at ISE 2013 demonstrates the future of public display technology with a focus on high resolution, energy saving, and design minimalism. The company’s cutting-edge technologies have been incorporated into all of its public display panels including IPS for accurate color saturation and contrast at wide viewing angles (both horizontal and vertical), and Local Dimming technology for reducing power consumption up to 30%. The incredibly slim and narrow bezels of LG Display public display screens provide an immersive viewing experience even in multi-screen settings.

In addition, LG Display’s proprietary liquid crystal technology ensures that screens will be able to withstand a temperature tolerance of up to 110°C. Conventional LCD panels begin to turn black when surface temperatures exceed 75°C. LG Display’s advancement effectively solves overheating issues so common to public display. In addition, unique “Shine-Out” technology integrated into LG Display panels reflect away sunlight, allowing image quality to remain uncompromised even in direct sunlight conditions.

A Rapidly Growing Market

Public display is one of the most rapidly growing, high growth potential, and exciting markets in display technology today. According to research firm DisplaySearch, the public display market is expected to grow over 38% from 3 million units in 2013 to 4.1 million units in 2014 and to also grow by 2018 to a total volume of 11.8 million units, 3 times larger than in 2013.
